The Blue Whale is one of Rolando's signature style groups of shapes. Rolando introduced this nomenclature in 2002 when he created the first Blue Whale. The evolution of the shape was refined and reinterpreted by Rolando with each whale he carved. He is obsessed with the flow of the movement, which is exactly the design scope of the pipe displayed here. As the elements of design are kept to a minimalist representation, the stem erupts directly from the body suggesting the water fountain of whale's breath, and the crustaceans imbedded in the whale ‘skin is a perfect justification to leave the briar burl natural texture exposed.
